Vienna, VA—Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, Americans for the Arts, Reverb, and Booz Allen Hamilton will gather some of the nation’s leading thinkers in the disciplines of the arts, environmental sciences, government, and business, during Wolf Trap’s National Arts and Environment Summit in Vienna, Virginia, July 13 and 14, 2008. The summit is another action in a series of leadership steps taken by the Wolf Trap Foundation’s year-old “Go Green with Wolf Trap” initiative to raise awareness of environmental issues within the performing arts community. As America’s Only National Park for the Performing Arts, Wolf Trap has been celebrating the inspirational relationship between nature and the arts for more than 37 years.
The two-day event will begin on Sunday, July 13, with an eco-friendly public performance headlined by Hootie & The Blowfish. Environmentally responsible components of the evening’s activities are being planned with assistance from Reverb. Founded by environmentalists Lauren Sullivan and Adam Gardner, Reverb is deeply rooted within the music and environment communities, working to educate and engage musicians and their fans in environmental sustainability. Concert-goers, Wolf Trap supporters, and the local community will be encouraged through the evening’s festivities to “Start Where You Are” and join Wolf Trap on its journey to become a zero waste and carbon neutral organization devoted to an environmentally and socially responsible future.
On Monday, July 14, approximately 20 of the nation’s foremost environmental and arts experts, along with government, community, and business leaders, will convene to outline a list of strategies and practical solutions for fully engaging performing artists and performing arts presenters in environmental stewardship. Another goal of the summit will be to outline national and local alliances that can be forged between these groups. The actual meeting of these 20 experts will take place at the Corporate Headquarters of Booz Allen Hamilton, Inc. in McLean, Virginia and will be enhanced through videoconferencing. The final portion of the summit will be open to the public for comment and participation via the Internet.
In addition to its support for Wolf Trap’s National Arts and Environment Summit, Booz Allen has joined with Climate Friendly Parks, a program of the National Park Service and the Environmental Protection Agency, to help Wolf Trap assess its impact on the environment and develop a plan for change.
